The Health Benefits of Quail Eggs

12 Feb

There has been much hullaballoo about the quails and their eggs in the recent past. The multi-billion dollar business is the talk in many forums and many social media platforms. You will however be surprised if you asked the so called quail farmers or “big wigs” why the quail eggs is currently the second biggest thing behind Kenya’s Lupita Nyong’o in the world. Before the quail eggs became a multi-billion business, my friend Wanjala (best known to him as “isindu”) would perennially eat quails and their eggs during the maize harvesting season. Despite this, his favorite team Arsenal has gone trophy less for 9 years! My other friend Branny (best known to him as “aluru”) has thrived on quail and their eggs since he was born but has never seen his club Liverpool lift the EPL trophy.

Just, the other day in the outskirt of Nairobi town I found a hawker selling the quail eggs. When I approached him and asked him the benefits of eating the quail eggs. He looked at me, asked me whether I was married and told me to go have a shower with the quail eggs and that beautiful neighbor girl would be mine.  Out of curiosity and excitement I went home immediately and had a shower. The rest is history as the beautiful girl is yet to notice that I had a quail bath. Indeed little knowledge is dangerous, that I why I have decided to get into these murky waters of quails to bring you the health benefits of quails and their eggs.

Quail eggs are packed with minerals and vitamins. In spite of their size, the nutritional value of the quail eggs is four times that of the chicken eggs. Whereas the chicken egg contains 11% proteins, the quail eggs contain 13% proteins. On the vitamin B1 front, it is a whitewash; whereas the quail eggs contain 140% the chicken eggs contain 50%. The sweet deal doesn’t stop there; the quail eggs provide 5 times more potassium and iron compared to the chicken eggs. Besides, unlike the chicken eggs which cause allergies, the quail eggs do not cause diathesis or allergies. They in fact help fight the allergy symptoms because of the ovomucoid protein that they contain.
